Tips for kids
- Watch out for “free” stuff. Free games, ring tones, or other downloads can hide malware. Tell your kids not to download anything unless they trust the source and they’ve scanned it with security software.
- Cover your webcam. Turn off or block cameras and microphones when class is not in session. Also, be sure that no personal information is in the camera view.
- Never share confidential information. Students should not be asked to share confidential information via online tools. They should keep all personal information off social media platforms.
- Mobile Devices: Your child should only answer calls and texts from people they know.
- Use privacy settings to restrict who can access and post on your child’s profile.
- Youtube: Create a separate account for each child on the home computer.
- TikTok: Switch to a private account – the default account setup is public.
- Instagram: Keep the profile private- Don’t accept requests or invites from strangers or reveal data.
- Discord: Block unsuitable content – Use the app’s explicit content filter in the settings.
