Richard Horne, former managing director of cyber security at Barclays Bank, is joining business consultancy firm <a href="http://www.pwc.com/">PricewaterhouseCoopers</a> (PwC) as a partner in its cyber security practice.</p> He also served as director of electronic protection and chief operating officer for global IT at Barclays and spent a year on secondment to the Cabinet Office to help shape the UK’s <a href="https://www.computerweekly.com/news/2240111599/Government-publishes-UK-Cyber-Security-Strategy-to-protect-public">national cyber security plan</a>. <p style="text-align: justify;">Prior to joining PwC, Richard was Managing Director of Cyber Security for Barclays PLC; responsible to the Barclays Board for ensuring management of cyber security risk across the Barclays Group.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Richard was seconded from Barclays to the UK Cabinet Office for 2011, to help shape and drive the national plan for Cyber Security – both across government and the wider economy. Prior to the secondment, Richard built and led the range of operational cyber security capabilities required to protect Barclays retail and commercial banking systems and electronic data globally. Previously, he was Chief Operating Officer for the global IT operations of the Retail and Commercial Bank.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Prior to joining Barclays, Richard was Head of Electronic Commerce and Security Services for Global Crossing UK, after leading development of cryptographic services for Racal.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Richard holds a PhD in Mathematics from Royal Holloway, University of London, and has represented the UK on security matters to the OECD, the European Commission and the International Standards Organisation. He serves on a number of advisory boards for academic institutions and technology start-up companies in Cyber Security and he served on the advisory board of PGP Corporation prior to its acquisition by Symantec.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Richard is regularly sought for media comment on cyber security issues. He has appeared on CNN and BBC (TV and radio), and is often quoted in the FT, Times, Telegraph and business publications.</p>
