The LockBit ransomware group has published 1.5 terabytes of personal and financial information stolen from Bank Syariah Indonesia after failed ransom negotiations.
The data breach affects approximately 15 million customers and employees of the country’s largest Islamic bank.
Bank Syariah Indonesia, a state-owned institution formed through a merger, has restored essential banking services under the supervision of Bank Indonesia. The cyberattack led to disruptions and prompted the bank to implement security measures.
LockBit revealed conversations with bank representatives, showing negotiations for a $10 million ransom, which the bank considered paying before communication ceased.
Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin called for technological improvements to prevent future attacks and acknowledged the incident’s negative impact on the public.
