Acer, the Taiwanese electronics giant, has confirmed a data breach after a hacker claimed to have stolen 160 GB of data from the company.
The hacker, known as Desorden, announced the hack on a popular cybercrime forum and stated that they had stolen confidential product model documentation, backend infrastructure, and other sensitive data.
Acer has confirmed that the attacker compromised one of its servers, but no indication of consumer data being stored on that server has been found.
The leaked data reportedly includes confidential slides, staff manuals, binaries, backend infrastructure, BIOS information, product model documentation, replacement digital product keys, ISO files, and ROM files.
The hacker has stated that they only accept payments in Monero cryptocurrency and will only sell with the escrow. The seller also claims that the data was stolen in mid-February.
This is not the first time Acer has been targeted by Desorden. The same hacker breached some of its servers in India in October 2022 and claimed to have breached some systems in Taiwan as well.
The recent data breach follows a string of high-profile attacks on large corporations, highlighting the need for companies to invest in cybersecurity measures and stay vigilant against evolving cyber threats.
